How to work as an IT professional in financial industry

--- By Xin Wang

Jan 18th, 2023 DFWCIA and our brother organization Zaigezaigu from Silicon Valley collaborated together and organized an online panel discussion together: work as an IT professional in financial industry.

First our seminar host Boyang Dong introduced Zaigezaigu, and DFWCIA president Xin Wang introduced DFWCIA’s organization mission, vision and how we can help our community in job hunting, career development and broadcasting channels.

Our panelists today include Zhengzheng Pan and Chaoran Wang. Zhengzheng leads a team at Fidelity Investments and is the organizational owner of an enterprise-wide AI-driven capability. He has built the entire AI-Ops team from ground-up and successfully launches 10+ AI/analytics products across multiple business units. Chaoran was working at AWS for 6 years after graduating from UT Dallas in 2016 with a master’s in Computer Science. Chaoran recently joined JPMorgan as VP, Lead Architect and he is mainly responsible for JPMorgan Global Public Cloud Acceleration and Product Architecture. During the conversation, Zhengzheng, Chaoran and Boyang discussed their perspectives and predictions about the potential economy impact on the IT job market. They also introduced their daily work as a VP, product manager, tech lead, and product solutions. They also compared the workload in a financial company with in a tech company. They also answered a commonly asked question: Do financial companies have up-to-date IT technology? And most importantly, how to get into this industry, what positions are available, how to prepare for the technical and behavioral interviews in these companies etc. More than 110 people joined our event today. The audience engaged a lot in the discussions and asked many good questions like career advice to new graduate, how to migrate from data field to product management, do we need to practice leetcode for the financial company interviews etc. There were also heated discussions in the zoom chat.

It was a great opportunity and experience to collaborate with Zaigezaigu and host such a great event for several communities. Our event promotion has spread over to many communities in Silicon Valley, Seattle, DFW, Austin, Atlanta, Chicago and even Canada.  DFWCIA are really honored to be able to play an essential part in serving the Chinese IT communities in the entire north America.
