On July 23rd, 2023, DFWCIA hosted an online seminar: My Entrepreneurial Dream. Kai Xu, a renowned entrepreneur, who is the founder and executive of companies in a various industries including electronics, solar, artificial intelligence and education, etc.

Xu first introduced the difference between entrepreneurship and corporate life. Some examples include risk, decision making, innovation,  accountability and domain knowledge. Xu shared his personal journey switching gear after university teaching and researching, and how his past experience had prepared him for his mission in entrepreneurship. Xu discussed the challenges of starting a new venture and drifting away from the corporate life. The key is self-cultivating, family-regulating, state-ordering, and pacifying the world. Xu emphasized on the important of maintaining a harmony extended family relationship. Xu also gave advices of identifying business opportunities, but also cherishing and appreciating the current circumstances in any works one has committed to. Next, Xu highlighted the key of being humble, persistent and creative when it comes to finding a good mentor.

Xu used a vivid case study of a one-man tea shop, McDonalds and army to show case the complexity of functions when scaling up. It is not only about make one good product but also areas in supply chain management and people management. The management should beyond technical skills but winning peoples’ heart. Xu remaindered the audience that the goal more than monetary. It is the purpose of life and impact one can made when it comes to entrepreneurship.

Xu’s presentation was thoroughly enjoyed by the audience of around 60 people, who actively engaged by asking numerous questions.  For example, how to balance the current job and the start-up. How to value the necessity of a new venture. AI & Robotics Academy. How to identify new business opportunities. How to get fundings. How AI & Robotics Academy can improve fresh college graduates.
