DFWCIA April member meetup

Author: Xin Wang

Today DFWCIA hosted the second member meetup in 2021, the theme was “Learning Changes Life”. Robin, the director of the membership department, served as the moderator. Anny Hong, the director of the membership department and Julia Liang, the president of DFWCIA executive committee team were speakers. 57 people joined the meeting today, we learned a lot about aws certifications, EMBA and career development.

Our meetup has two parts, big room presentations and breakout rooms discussions. In big room presentations, Anny introduced her journey of certification and Julia shared her experience about career development and her EMBA experience. Anny’s presentation is very humorous and informative. She introduced different types of AWS certifications, and how she planned and managed her time to complete all these certificates in a short amount of time. She also shared some study materials.  Anny compared the journey of certification with Quantum Mechanics. She encouraged everybody never give up and never be afraid of failures. In Julia’s presentation, she first introduced her career experience and her takeaways such as keep learning marketable skills, go out of comfort zone, focus delivery, and lessons such as learn more about business, improve leadership and soft skills, expand scope and own a domain. Julia also shared her opinion about why to get an MBA and when to get it. Later Julia introduced the Cornell EMBA program that she participated in and what she had gained from it. Both presentations were very inspiring. The audience enjoyed it so much that the 10min Q&A session was not long enough for everybody. After the presentations, Xin, the VP of operation, introduced DCIA toastmaster club which is about to start in this summer. After that, the audience joined breakout rooms to discuss further about their interested topics such as career development, cloud technology and data science.

Everyone who joined the meetup enjoyed their time today. The meeting ran about 1 hour longer than we scheduled. “Very informative”,  “I learned a lot”, “Great presentations”, “Julia is a true leader”… we received dozens of compliments and positive feedbacks like this from the audience. We know that the meeting will encourage more people to keep learning, keep improving, and keep developing.
