DCIA Dec Seminar “The Journey of a High-Tech Entrepreneur”

Author: Xin Wang

DFW Chinese IT Association (DCIA) successfully hosted a virtual leadership seminar on entrepreneurship on Dec 13th, 2020. The seminar’s objective is to inspire our IT professionals to get out of their comfort zone, unleash their potentials, and discover their possibility to become an intrapreneur or entrepreneur.

One hundred and five people attended this meeting. Our DCIA VP of membership, Xuyong Tu, and department directors Robin Ma and Any Hong, introduced our membership perks and how the new mentorship program works. We encouraged the audience to join DCIA and our mentorship program to help each other to grow.

Our keynote speaker, Dr. Weiwen Xie, gave an excellent speech titled “The Journey of a high-tech Entrepreneur.” Dr. Xie is an entrepreneur and senior IT executive with 25+ years of experience building and running multiple successful technology businesses. He first introduced his startup company Quetica and what the company does. Dr. Xie then shared his story on how he grew from a developer to an entrepreneur. After that, he talked about the process of starting a small business: from preparation, identifying business opportunities, creating business & organization structure, funding, to growing the business. The whole speech covered many entrepreneurship areas and helped the audiences to open their vision and change their mindset. In the Q&A session, Dr. Xie answered great questions from the audiences about dividing the shares among the co-founders, what characters make a successful entrepreneur, how the MBA degree helps start a business and the pros and cons of running international offices. The audiences were actively engaged, motivated and inspired.

Following the keynote speech, the audiences were split into small groups in the zoom breakout rooms and had interactive discussions on finding a good business opportunity and the right partners. After that, the audience returned to the main room to summarize their learnings. Quite a few audiences shared their personal experience and knowledge on running their own business or working for a startup.

In the end, our moderator Jason thanked Dr. Xie for his excellent speech and the audience for their participance. In general, we had a great learning experience, and we’re glad that DCIA provided such a fantastic seminar to the community!
