Azure Fundamentals Training Course Report–Part II

       —  By Xin Wang

On March 12th, 2023, DFWCIA hosted an online training course for Azure fundamentals (Part II). The first part training was done on Feb 26th. Azure Fundamentals is a training course that familiarizes you with Microsoft Azure and its many services and features. Whether you’re interested in compute, networking, or storage services, learning about cloud security best practices, or exploring governance and management options, think of Azure Fundamentals as your curated guide to Azure.

The meeting started at 2pm CDT. First our organization president Xin Wang introduced our organization, and next our event chair Rita Chen introduced all the volunteers who have worked hard to prepare for this event Rita Chen, Glen Fan, Shuming Liu, Mark Yin, Jie Song and our speaker Jude Chen. Jude Chen is currently a Sr. Cloud Solutions Architect at Microsoft. He has 20+ years in Server administration (Unix/Linux/Windows), IT infrastructure design and architecting, and 6+ years in Azure cloud infrastructure architecting.

This training course consists of 4 modules and extends for 2 parts, this is the second part, the first part happened on Feb 26th, 2pm CDT. Today’s session is composed of 2 modules. The first module (third module in total) is about cloud security and privacy, including network security, key vault, implementing Azure policy, and subscription governance. The second module (forth module in total) is about Azure pricing and support, including the Azure pricing options and support options.

The audience came from different communities not only from DFW, but also from Austin, Silicon Valley and Seattle. They engaged in the learning session in an interactive way. Many great questions were asked such as “If I run the application in one VPC, and the database in the other VPC, can I set up the security group of the database to allow the db access only from the security group of the application?” “One of the users experienced part of the screen blank or disappeared while using the application and the user’s app is on a cloud not MS Azure, how was it possible ?” and a lot of deep and solid technical discussions happened during the seminar. The audience has learned a lot about Azure today. Thank you everyone for joining us today and we look forward to seeing you in our future events!
